Reading the Rainbow: Radio Silence by Alice Oseman

Trigger warnings in the book: Bigoted and shitty mother

You know when you read a good book and your first reaction is to try and force it on everyone you know and meet? That was me when I read this book. When Oseman can NAIL fandom tumblr culture and shitty parents / school / education culture, you know you’ve found a good one. While writing this I checked a couple of details in the book and remembered how I underlined some of the more iconic quotes, so prepare for that if you want to borrow my copy.

On top of this, the main character not only is bisexual, she SAYS THE WORD! Which is SO rare! She is also mixed race, one of the secondary characters is Korean and the lead character in the fictional podcast around which the book is based is gender ambiguous (The podcast is loosely based around Welcome to Night Vale). There’s also some other representation but that’s a bit more of a spoiler so I’ll let you find those ones out for yourself.
